and Proud Grunt!
PDS: Bangor, WA St.
It can be a long lonely journey...............
Recieved his EGA on MC Birthday!
He turned 18 in boot camp!
Our family friends brought this cake over to our house
(that made me need a tissue) We took pictures
of his cake and a group photo and mailed him
the photos in b/c and told him his
B-day cake was GOOD!! Haahaaa...
Left: Our son and PI Purple Heart Hero..Zack,
and our Marine in the middle.. Christmas 2008
Me'n my Warrior husband of 23 years!
They fight not so much of what they hate in front of them but what they love that is behind them.
"Hope" is the thing with feathers~
That perches in the soul~
And sings the tune without the words~
And never stops at all.

2-MOS's: Security Force and Proud Grunt
Alex joined the Marine Corps at 17 years old and turned 18 in bootcamp.
For two years he will be working Security Forces guarding one of our main U.S. Nuclear Submarine Bases up in the Pacific Northwest for another
year then he'll be deployed into Infantry. He has a Humvee, Bearcat and Pistal license and is very good in their MCMAPS program (Marine Corps Martial Arts
Program). Beings he's over 2,000 miles from home we don't see him often. Last year LCpl Alex and a couple other Marines helped with the Special
Olympics. He was also assigned a Drill Instructor position for the areas ROTC camp for a weekend. He works hard and plays hard..broke a toe, finger and split
is lip playing sports off duty. When he's not working 60 to 80 hours a week as a Marine, he's ATVing in the Hood Canal area with his Marine Corp
Brothers. He's also a successful Artist and during the summer his Mother sells his art downtown at the Artist Market to help pay for his phone bill.
He is very proud to serve and protect our United States of America!

"WE FIGHT TO SAVE
& PROTECT OUR WAY OF LIFE"
For about 2 yrs. I was a moderator for the USMC PI recruit depot STC forum
(Special Training Company)
A support forum for parents and loved ones who's
recruits have been injured, ill or delayed and set-back in training
...sometimes for months! I still help out in there.
Because of our first son's bootcamp experience
this volunteer job kind of fell in my lap.
My occupation is to remind myself on a daily bases to be
"Semper Gumby"...always flexible.
Because MC Plans, my Marines plans,
me and my husbands plans, family & friends plans...
Life's plans and God's plans
don't always match up
GOSH DARN IT!!!
in all of our US Military Branches! THE USMC:
230 years of romping, stomping, hell, death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world has ever seen. I was born in a bomb crater,
my mother was an M-16. My father was God Almighty. Each moment that I live is an additional threat upon your life. I am a roughish looking, roving soldier of
the sea. I am cocky, self-centered, overbearing, and I do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green amphibious monster made of blood and
guts who arose from the sea festering on anti-Americanism throughout the globe, wherever it may arise.
When my time comes I will die a glorious death on the battlefield giving my life for Mom, apple pie, and the American Flag. We stole the eagle from the Air
Force, the anchor from the Navy, the rope from the Army, and on the seventh day while God rested, we overran his perimeter, stole the globe, and have been
running the show ever since.
We live like soldiers, talk like sailors and slap the hell out of both of them.
Soldier by day, Lover by night, drunkard by choice, Marine by the grace of God!

Momopoly
(pronounced like the board game Monopoly)
1st son Zack:
Christmas 2008
2005-06 on Parris Island for 6 mths sent home with a med.discharge
Feb. 10th, 2006, from serious dbl. pneumonia.
Recently gave Navy recruiters his DD214 discharge papers and medical records.
He'll need a waiver. He's leaning into enlisting as a Navy Corpsmen (like his dad was)
attatched with the Marines or aircraft/helicopter machanic.
*EDITED: The Navy will not accept him, would not give him a waiver
from his MC boot camp medical discharge.
FUNNY how life is. He has a high ASVAB score.
Two years ago he took Lousiville city fire dept. PFT and was top 25 out of 600 men....
but he can't get into the military!
I'm stunned.
God must know something we don't...LOL?!
He did made it on their hiring list!
However because of politics...the hiring system had to be re-vamped.
This is his MC story...
2 1/2 months after graduation he entered MC bootcamp
Halfway through MC bootcamp...
Readers Digest condensed version:
Collapsed lung, serious dble pneumonia
(regular P. in one lung, Klebsiella in the other.
(I know...it's a freak thing!) 3 chest tubes to drain at least 7 liters of fluids
(imagine a 2 liter bottle of soda!)
3 continuous antibiotic IV's, lots of weight loss, dbl rations..gatoraid and ensure,
lots of coughing, throwing up..etc. etc. etc.....
oh, and I should mention that BIG needle they poked into his chest to get pockets of fluid
out the tubes couldn't get to!?! 39 days in Beaufort and Naval Hospital.
OMG this wasn't suppose to happen!!!
What the...this wasn't planned on his first big adventure away from home!!!
Why, how could this be, it's a nightmare!? I lost 15 lbs from "worry". When we were able to visit a couple of times over a weekend..he was so
weak he could NOT walk...we pushed him in a wheel chair out to a porch to get fresh air...HE LOOKED AND ACTED LIKE AN 80 YR OLD MAN!!
The Dr. said if he was not as fit as he was to begin with he would NOT have made it...
*Grand finale just when we thought it was just about over
and when unhooked from stuff...he fell from weakness
on his face busting his teeth!! (& this knocked himself out)
Nine stitches (7 in his lip-2 in gums) dental work and braces!

He said that needle they put into the roof of his mouth shot him to the ceiling.
Hurt a heck of a lot worse than the chest needles! He could hardly eat his mouth was so sore and swollen.
He was a big football/baseball player for 10 years
so going into bootcamp he wanted to
plow right through like a super hero...
and of course the MC teach them to be as super heroes
for their survival in the battle fields.
This was all an accident he kept saying...he held onto his FAITH through it all,
and the doctors and SDI were very professional
and helpfull. Zack didn't turn bitter or bash the military...towards anyone or anything.
He kept saying..."There's a reason for this Mom & Dad...
God must want me to go through this & has other plans for me.
So I'll be okay with all this." and
"I think God wanted me to be in EHP to help
these other guys out too."
and "Maybe God didn't want me going to Iraq."
All his calm and confidence through this all calmed my terribly frazzeled heart.
FUNNY (?)...how the smallest enemy unseen to the human eye
can reduce the strongest man to skin and bones.
...this is called "Germ Warfare".
But we know he battled for his life
and didn't need to go to Iraq!
We are SO VERY PROUD OF HIM!!!
....and He's FINE now!
BTW...his teeth look pretty good too.
He's our ...
PARRIS ISLAND Purple Heart Hero!"
A photo of him before he fell from weakness busting his teeth...
Zachary is currently taking EMT classes. His new future dream
is to become a firefighter for our city.
They hire at 21 years old...and he's 21 now.
If he makes it he'll be 4th generation fire fighter for our family!

(All this didn't scare his little brother..
so 2 years later Alex gave it a try and made it through MC bootcamp..
but i didn't have any fingernails left!)
